JRN 201: One Last Game:

Glendale Community College’s men’s basketball team has their final home game against Pima on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, in the gym.

Glendale Community Colleges’ Athletic Director Peter Oliszczak said, “that the cost of the game will be $3 dollars for students and $5 dollars for adults.” He also mentioned that Glendale Community Colleges’ men’s basketball team is in the hunt to participate in the playoffs.” Peter Oliszczak mentioned that he will be at the game on Tuesday. Pima is going to be a tough test for the team on Tuesday.

According to Coach Meyer, Pima presents a tough matchup for us and that they are so skilled on the offensive end.  They are taking the games as they come. You can’t overthink it, otherwise you won’t be able to focus. Meyer stated that Pima is very tricky on the offensive end and that they are very well coached by Peabody. He said that his main areas of focus were to have good transition defense. Getting back on defense is key. Defense wins basketball games. You can always deal with great offense over great defense. Sometimes players are just too offensively skilled. All you can do is prepare for them and hope that they miss a few shots here and there. “We don’t want to give up a single transition run-out. We gave hit that target goal in our last two games, said Coach Meyer.” He stated that each possession is valuable and that is how he evaluates some of the game’s success. Each possession is crucial. His other goals for the team this coming Tuesday were that they want to get their centers involved very quickly into the game. Coach Meyer mentioned that his team’s centers are very productive on the offensive side of the ball.

Coach Meyer has stated that this year is going really well, but he can’t determine the success of the season until after it is over. He said that the quality of this season could be determined by them playing for the region 1 championship. Coach Meyer praised his team and that he is “most proud of their practice habits and ability to play hard and complete in a practice setting.” He also said that it is not very hard to get to them to want to play games, but that it could be difficult to get to practice. He stated again that his team was awesome to work with and that he wanted his team run most of the practice themselves. His final statement was that is was a success that the team was able to have everyone work hard in practice and that it can be hard to do that in college basketball.

This is the last game of the season for Glendale Community College’s men’s basketball team. It will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, in the gym at Glendale Community College at 7:30 pm. Tickets are very cheap and that this last home game is crucial in the outcome of their fate in the playoffs.
