Gauchos poke Bears and survive, Gauchos 3-7

After last week’s 19-14 win against Mesa Community College, the Gauchos win their second straight game this time against the Phoenix College Bears 52-28 Sat. Nov. 3 at GCC.

Saturday’s game time was originally 1 p.m. but the referees did not show up to the field until 2:30 p.m. “We’re just trying to stay focused on our current game plan and stay hydrated,” said coach Bell.

The Gauchos offense led by quarterback Elijah Lorence with quarterback Mason Nguyen done for the season with a torn MCL. Lorence threw for 202 yards and 3 TDs as well as had 10 rushing yards in the process.

The Gauchos offense put up a total of 309 yards and 3 TDs. Leading the rushing attack was running back Dexter Carter who had 192 yards on 24 carries and all 3 TDs for the Gauchos running back core.

On the receiving end for the Gauchos three different receivers caught touchdowns from quarterback Elijah Lorence. Raymond Pauwels led the Gauchos receiving core with 70 yards on only 4 catches in the game.

“You know we came out and played really good in the first quarter both sides of the ball then offensively in the second quarter not bad but defensively horrendous. We just got lethargic and I think guys just felt too good about themselves in the first quarter and forgot to play” said coach Bell.

The Gauchos defense had a total of 73 tackles for the game and 2 interceptions by Quintin Estice and Michael Woods.

The Gauchos last game of the season will be Nov. 10 at Scottsdale Community College. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m.
