GCC men’s basketball could prove to be hot ticket

Basketball season has arrived and this year one of the best tickets in town to watch a game may not be at the America Arena to watch the Phoenix Suns, or on your home couch watching Michael Jordan on T.V., but it may be at the Gaucho Basketball Gym here on campus.

Last year after finishing with an 11-20 losing record, many the players who would be returning to the team, decided early in the spring, that they would commit themselves to make it to the National Tournament this year.

They dedicated themselves in the weight room and practicing on the basketball court all summer long and this year, the results have really showed during practice sessions.

The team was not ranked in any preseason polls by the NJCAA, but Coach Brown is not worried about how this year’s team is perceived.

“We have nothing to prove to anyone, if we believe in ourselves, we will be turning some heads this year,” Coach Brown mentioned. “It’s going to be exciting and a lot of fun, we hope the students and faculty believe in what we are going to try to accomplish this year.”

Some of the key players to watch and who are returning this season are sophomores James Moran, DeMarco Burkes, Mike Elcock, and Brad Derick, but some newcomers this year such as Darnell Jones, and Eric Bloom will also raise some eyebrows with their quick up-tempo types of plays.

The home opener for the Men’s basketball team is Saturday Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. against Luke AFB.
