Softball gears up as the season opens

The Lady Gauchos softball team is very excited about the upcoming 2012-2013 season.  They have added some great talent to the team with seven freshmen, and the returning nine sophomores.

The Lady Gauchos started the 2012-2013 season in Las Vegas on Jan. 25, during a tournament that had teams from all over the country.

They finished the tournament with two wins and two losses.

The first team the Lady Gauchos played was Snow College from Ephraim, Uah, in which the Lady Gauchos scored four runs, but it wasn’t enough to stop Snow College from getting the win 16-4.

Next on the line-up for the Lady Gauchos was their game against Colorado Northwestern Community College from Rangely, Colorado on Jan. 25.

The Lady Gauchos scored three runs in the top of the third inning with a two run home run from Brooke Williamson.  The Lady Gauchos were able to play great defense to stop Colorado Northwestern Community College from scoring the rest of the game the Lady Gauchos got their first win 3-2.

Jan. 26, the Lady Gauchos started the day off playing the College of Southern Nevada from North Las Vegas in Las Vegas.

The game came down to the bottom of the seventh inning to determine who the winner was.

The Lady Gauchos went into the top of the seventh inning three outs away from recording their second win for the year.  In the top of the seventh inning, the Lady Gauchos gave up seven runs to lose the lead with a heartbreaking loss of 8-6.

During the final game of the weekend tournament in Las Vegas, the Lady Gauchos played Western Nevada College from Carson City, Nevada.

This game was a slugfest!  The Lady Gauchos recorded eight hits with eight runs to defeat Western Nevada College 8-7.

The Lady Gauchos are headed home with a record of two wins and two losses.

In the tournament, the Lady Gaucho’s recorded 21 runs with 29 hits. They have some power hitters, and some great young talented pitchers with phenomenal defense in the field.

The Lady Gauchos began conference play Jan. 29, at home against South Mountain Community College.
