At the beginning of the year, when Leah Bradley and head coach Lisa Stuck were asked what their goals were for the GCC Volleyball team, they both said “to get over the hump and make it to the national tournament.”

With their eyes on competing for the national title, the GCC volleyball team will do just that.

After defeating South Mountain in four sets on Nov. 5, the Gauchos would face the Phoenix College Bears the next day.

Glendale once again came out victorious in three straight sets, and then it was on to the regional finals where Scottsdale had to beat Glendale twice to make it to the national tournament.

Glendale fought hard in the first match, losing three games to two, which would set up a final match later that evening against the Artichokes.

In the final match, Glendale dominated their opponent in three straight sets 25-21,25-15 and 25-23, making the Lady Gauchos Region I champions.

Now it is on to nationals for the team, which will be held in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

This is the first trip to the national tournament for GCC since 2002 and they will be looking to bring the trophy home for the first time in school history.

When asked what her expectations of the team are at nationals, coach Lisa Stuck said “it’s a matter of playing now, and not looking back or ahead.”

Going into the national tournament the Gauchos have an overall record of 18- 13 which is the least amount of wins than any team in the tournament but the record does not show how tough the teams were that Glendale faced.

Coach Stuck says “Region I is one of the toughest regions to get out of to reach the National tournament because of the tough competition we face all year.”

Leah Bradley won tournament MVP honors.
