Glendale cigar shop to host special Rocky Patel event

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Churchill’s Fine Cigars will be hosting a Rocky Patel special event at its Glendale location. The event will take place Thursday, March 3 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Located at 19420 N. 59th Ave., in the same complex as Zipp’s bar, Churchill’s will be hosting a manufacturer event. This is when a representative of a cigar company (in this case Rocky Patel), will promote its brand at a local shop by offering specials and incentives to customers for purchasing that particular brand of cigars.

Specials often come in the form of “buy three or four cigars, get one free,” but according to the store manager, depending on the representative, there are also additional incentives.

“They typically will offer ‘swag.’ What ‘swag’ could be is a cutter or a lighter, an ashtray; sometimes they do posters, sometimes they do t-shirts, it really depends on the rep. We’ve had some reps offer humidors,” said Darryl Bingham, store manager at Churchill’s.

The shop holds these events monthly, always on a Thursday, and each time featuring a different brand.

“We actually have a cut-and-light next Thursday (Feb. 17) from three to six, with Crowned Heads. We try to do as many events as we can to introduce different brands to the market; these are all brands that we carry,” said Bingham.

A cut-and-light event offers similar deals, but often with incentives such as the representative offering you a free cigar which he will light for you to smoke in the shop.

Churchill’s Fine Cigars has been at its current Glendale location for the last 5 years but has been in business for over 20.

They offer a wide selection of premium, hand-rolled cigars, two of their bestsellers being My Father and Padrón.
They also serve beer and wine, available by the bottle or on tap to be enjoyed right in the lounge.
